Well, we survived Vegas!
International CES is now the biggest electronics show in the world having developed over 40 years. CES was fantastic this year, attracting a record number of attendees and exhibitors alike. This year, over 150,000 people attended CES and over 3,000 companies exhibited, demonstrating more than 20,000 products. There were launches from Intel, LG Electronics, Nokia, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung and Sony to name just a few.
With the vast number of attendees and products on show, there was a real buzz at the four day event and it was a great atmosphere within which to show off Golden-i. We joined Kopin on the Verizon stand, the largest mobile phone carrier in the US, demonstrating the Golden-i headset. Ikanos, along with one of the Kopin engineers, developed a suite of demonstration software specifically for CES, showing a few exciting use-case examples of Golden-i in action.
With the power of Verizon’s 4G LTE, we demonstrated how Golden-i can help with public safety, part of a wider Verizon demonstration showing an entire public safety infrastructure. In our demonstration, a security guard at a large public venue could utilise Golden-i to respond to a missing child alert, and could bring up all relevant information relating to the alert. Additionally, the security agent could access the security feeds from the venue (we demonstrated this by accessing the feed from a camera attached to the Verizon booth and controlling the camera’s tilt, pan and zoom via voice control).
Golden-i had a fantastic impact at the conference, and everyone was impressed how advanced the system is. We are eagerly anticipating working on Golden-i over the coming months ready for release!

Well…. Christmas and New Year has flown by, and it’s back to work. Feeling a little heavier than before all the Christmas turkey, we’re now in full swing preparing for one of the key trips of the year- International CES, Las Vegas.
Next week, James (our Managing Director), Dave (our Technical Director) and Sean (our Project Coordinator) will be travelling to the US to visit International CES, the annual Consumer Electronics Show. This event attracts key businesses and personnel from all around the world and has over four decades of success. It is a great opportunity for us to network with key businesses in our industry and we will also be supporting Golden-i at the show. Of course, if there’s a chance for a good Vegas-style steak, our guys will take it!
We hope to see you there!

This week we have been blogging and tweeting about the build up to the Golden-i Partner Conference 2011, held in New York at the deSeversky Mansion on the Old Westbury Long Island campus of NYIT (New York Institute of Technology). Additionally, Emma has been tweeting about various parts of the event live from the conference itself.
What a success it’s been! The various presentations at the conference were fascinating, and everyone took knowledge and insight away with them! The conference included a humbling and inspiring talk from John C.C. Fan, CEO and Founder of Kopin Corporation (the company behind Golden-i). Talking about the history behind Kopin, John shared a very appropriate message to those gathered, all people who have invested in Golden-i: “Those who just play safe are just playing”.
As this blog covered earlier in the week, Ikanos had the opportunity to present at the conference, alongside the other prestigious speakers and leaders in industry. James and Dave presented on “Integration and Engineering Strategies for Golden-i”, talking about our involvement in the project and also what we can, and are bringing to Golden-i that is unique. Additionally, James and Dave took a Q&A session with Chris Parkinson, Software Manager for Golden-i, where delegates at the conference had the chance to ask questions about the unit from a technical perspective.
In addition to the daytime conference events, delegates were invited to the conference dinner. This was a wonderful event, and the winners of Golden-idea (the competition to find the greatest Golden-i use-case) were announced. The winner, a submission from Texas A&M, won $10,000! Second and third place were awarded a free Golden-i developer kit each!
The event was fantastic, and a resounding success all round. Now is the time to get involved in Golden-i… it really is the future of computing! Stay tuned to find out if Emma got everything she wanted in her New York shopping spree!

We’re on the countdown to the Golden-i Partner Conference at Ikanos towers…and it’s still manically busy as always!
Next week will see James, Emma and Dave travelling to the ‘big apple’ to rub shoulders with other developers working on Golden-i’s software.
There’s going to be all sorts on offer – the most interesting for James and Dave will be what future opportunities Golden-i can offer Ikanos, and what Ikanos can bring to Golden-i. And for Emma – shoe shopping in New York City is on the agenda!
We’ve played a huge role in the development of Golden-i so far, but we’re keen to do more. Some on the things being discussed include how future plans for Golden-i are shaping up? What is being pitched? Where are the opportunities for future enterprise? …… All interesting stuff that we’ll report back on through this blog.
Throughout the conference we’re hoping to see some familiar faces. Since the beginning we have always preferred meeting Golden-i partners face to face – and James has got the air miles to prove it! But next week we will be embracing the power of live tweeting.
Emma will be tapping away on her iPad to let you know how we’re getting on throughout the week – so watch out for our tweets (@ikanosc).
Live tweeting isn’t something we have done before, but getting involved in the social conversation of the event will give us much better reach then just manning our exhibition stand.

James Woodall, our Managing Director had the pleasure this week of joining the Kopin Golden-i development team at Technology Services World in Las Vegas. TSW is a conference series run by the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), an organisation focussed on research and development into new technology services.
In Vegas, Golden-i was demonstrated to conference attendees and the feedback was great. To learn more about Golden-i, please visit http://www.mygoldeni.com.
